Its purpose is to supply the escapement with force that remains as consistent as possible, largely independently of the winding state of the mainspring. <br \/>\n<br \/>\nIn every mechanical movement, the torque of the mainspring changes as the watch runs. A fully wound mainspring delivers more force than one that is nearly unwound. At short, fixed intervals, the going train winds a small storage spring. This spring then delivers its energy to the escapement in a controlled manner.  <br \/>\n<br \/>\nIn Lang & Heyne\u2019s Caliber VI-I, the mechanism is positioned at the escape wheel. At a frequency of 18,000 semi-oscillations per hour, the storage spring is rewound after every five semi-oscillations, or once per second. <br \/>\n<br \/>\nThe Reuleaux triangle plays a central role.
