Georg, known as “the bearded one”, bears his nickname out of deep personal grief: after the death of his beloved wife Barbara, he grew a beard as a sign of solidarity – and kept it until the end of his life.<\/p>\n

As a deeply religious prince with clear moral convictions, George ascended the throne at the age of 17 and led Saxony to economic stability with foresight. His political stance was characterized by conservative steadfastness: while he promoted humanism through his admiration for Erasmus of Rotterdam, he resolutely opposed the more radical teachings of Martin Luther. <\/p>\n
